Camera Obscura images
I just discovered the beautiful website of Jonas Reinsch. Reinsch is dedicated to the camera obscura, the technically simplest possible method of creating an image. It is often called the predecessor of photography, although its impact on painting were visible much earlier. Reinsch uses the camera obscura in his artistic work to create images that, in our digitally perfect times, are captivating precisely because of their blurriness. And not least, they are good examples for anyone who has never seen a camera obscura image before.
A camera obscura is basically nothing more than a dark room or box with a small hole. Light from outside enters through this hole. A faint, upside-down image of the surroundings is projected onto the opposite wall.
The Pinhole Gallery demonstrates how the ancient medium of the camera obscura creates contemporary and appealing photographs. This site also contains helpful suggestions for anyone who wants to experiment with a camera obscura.
