Download tip: chilled electro from Mexico by Vate
Vate has released an album worth listening to under Creative Commons, full of chilled electro sounds.
And again, another free album that winds its way into my auditory canals and just does not want to come out: Cachonda by Vate. The moniker is used by a Mexican DJ and producer who distributes his albums via the internet using Creative Commons and – in better sound quality – on CD. Cachonda is a collection of various electronic pieces that he released in December 2007. Here is a brief, personal description of the tracks included:
- Extranjero (Sin patria): The fastest track right from the start, even danceable. Nervous, urgent, impatient.
- Stravinsky (variaciones): Variations on Igor Stravinsky, the famous Russian composer? Perhaps, but in any case, proof of European influences on the work of the Mexican DJ. You can hear ominous strings over atmospheric, metallic-sounding beats.
- Cachonda: Created together with the remix for the film “Cumbia Cachonda”, carried by a percussive beat, the track hypnotically creeps into the listener’s ears. It gets its magic from the constantly added and removed tracks, which create ever new variations.
- Kukita (Electro remix): An electronic beat meets feverish synth sounds and seemingly randomly interspersed, quiet vocals.
- Cachonda (Foreplay): Similar in nature to the third track, but more subdued and with fine echo effects. A mixture of electro and dub styles.
All in all, a nice collection of not too intrusive electro tracks. The pieces are available for free download on the musician's homepage, and the CD can also be ordered there. In addition, further works by the artist, who now lives in Barcelona, can be discovered.
